For those who aren’t already aware, I’m the developer for Penguin Oasis. We had a survey running this past week where we asked if this was your first CPPS experience, whether you were having fun here and what kind of events/contests you would participate in. I will be using this post to reply to the some of the common suggestions and responses given to us, and give some insight into what we are looking into adding in the near future.
To start, there were quite a few of you who, despite liking the server, do not actually enjoy the freedom and unlimited resources it offers. We all can understand that feeling, as having to work towards earning something can be fun in itself. We hope it will please some of you to know that a classic version of the server is being worked on that will function like Club Penguin did, without the membership. There will be no unlimited anything. Your account from the main server will automatically be linked to the new one if you choose to play it, but nothing will carry over from it so that you can start fresh. You will be able to switch freely between one server and the other without losing anything. Minigames will give you coins instead of credits. Stamps and the EPF will also be available on the classic server, and down the line the main server as well. The chat filter will be enabled for all. There is no set date on when it will be finished, but it will be posted here on the blog and on Twitter when it is.
On the chat freedom specifically, there were also a few who were not aware of the chat filter we already have. It can be enabled by going to the in-game settings and checking “Hide profane words”. The filter applies chat messages, names, and soon statuses.
The most common contests mentioned were igloo, outfit, and multiplayer game contests. Igloo and outfit contests will be themed of course, and game contests may alternate between solo and team focus. For now, prizes will either be credits or a specific item from the credit store. A poll will be held soon to see which one of these contests you guys would like first. Overall, there will be more in-game contests in the future than ones involving social media, like our most recent one involving Twitter.
You may have noticed a poll currently going on over at this post about whether there should be a prom event or not. We held a similar prom on a previous iteration of Penguin Oasis, which some of you may remember. At the time of writing, the event is heavily favored. A date hasn’t been set yet but it will likely occur sometime in the later half of May. More details will be revealed soon. There will be more event parties like this in the coming months as well.
Many people have requested we update the catalogs and provide access to newer rooms such as the university and the skate park. The catalogs will be updated weekly, and the newer rooms will at some point be accessible, but only while having the [New] Normal rooms option activated in the party switcher. If you don’t already know, the party switcher is located above the top left corner of the game.
Well, that’s it for now! We very much appreciate all the survey responses given. If your suggestion or concern was not addressed here, don’t worry. Each survey response has been seen and noted. Thanks for playing!
